The Spokane String Quartet will present music by the Mendelssohn siblings and Bela Bartok at a 3 p.m. concert Sunday, March 17, at the Bing Crosby Theater.
Fanny Mendelssohn and her brother Felix were both prodigies as composers. Although Felix was the better known, some thought Fanny was the more talented, but being a female composer her opportunities were more limited. Also on the program is a quartet by Bela Bartok, 20th century composer and chronicler of Hungarian folk music..
The program includes:
• Fanny Mendelssohn: String Quartet in E-Flat Major
• Bela Bartok: String Quartet No. 5
• Felix Mendelssohn: String Quartet No. 2 in A Minor, Op. 13
All seats are general admission. Tickets are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors and $12 for students. Ticket prices include a $3 theater preservation fee. Tickets are available at www.ticketswest.com or at the door.
