Spokane String Quartet


	The Spokane String Quartet was formed in 1979 by members of the Spokane Symphony as the Quartet-in-Residence at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash. The Quartet has performed extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest and made its New York debut in Carnegie Recital Hall in 1980, playing music from the Moldenhauer Archives. The Spokane String Quartet frequently performs works by well-known composers from original manuscripts in the Moldenhauer Archives. With headquarters in Spokane and branches in three European nations, the Moldenhauer Archives is a research collection of music developed by the late Dr. Hans Moldenhauer. Manuscripts from the Archives have also been placed in the Library of Congress, at Harvard, Northwestern, Washington State University and Whitworth University. The Spokane String Quartet toured Europe in 1984 and 1993. In 1996 they completed a highly successful concert tour to Germany after performing with the Spokane Area Children’s Chorus in Austria, and in 1998 toured England and Scotland with the Children’s Chorus.
		Mateusz Wolski, first violin, has served as concertmaster for the Spokane Symphony since the fall of 2007. He previously served as concertmaster of the Annapolis Symphony. He has had a distinguished career in the United States and abroad. He came to the U.S. to attend Manhattan School of Music in 1996. It was there, with full scholarship, that he completed his bachelors and masters degrees under the tutelage of Glenn Dicterow, concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Wolski has appeared in New York City at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, 92nd Street Y, and the Kosciuszko Foundation. Abroad, his performances have included Wigmore Hall in London and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, as well as numerous engagements throughout Poland, Italy, England and Germany.
		Tracy Dunlop, second violin, rejoined the Spokane String Quartet in 2009 after being a member of the ensemble more than a decade ago. She arrived in Spokane in 1994 as principal second violin of the Spokane Symphony and in 1999 became assistant concertmaster of the orchestra. Tracy is the past principal second violinist of the Knoxville (Tenn.) Symphony and has performed with the Michigan Opera, Chicago Opera, the Nashville Chamber Orchestra, the Bear Valley Festival (California), the Waterloo Festival (New Jersey), and the Oregon Ballet and Oregon Symphony. Currently, Tracy teaches at Gonzaga University, is concertmaster of the Spokane Opera, violinist with Tango Volcado and Tedesca Ensemble, and is a 10-year member of the prestigious Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson, Wyo. Tracy considers her most fulfilling and important role to be as Mom to Fiona and Moira with whom she shares her days and some sleepless nights!
		Jeannette Wee-Yang, viola, is the assistant principal violist in the Spokane Symphony. Born in Singapore, where violin lessons were started, she immigrated to Vancouver, B.C., at age 8. She received a bachelor of music degree from the University of British Columbia and a master of music degree from Indiana University. Jeannette has performed with orchestras across North America, including the Milwaukee Symphony, the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. She was the principal violist of the Sudbury Symphony in Ontario, Canada, and the assistant principal violist of the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra. She also teaches viola at Whitworth University.
		Helen Byrne, cello, is assistant principal cellist with the Spokane Symphony. A native of Spokane, she began her cello studies with Carol Graef. She graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in cello performance and in 1982 joined the Spokane Symphony. She plays a cello made in 1820 by Thomas Kennedy.
